Apple has done a better job of providing printer updates with Snow Leopard. Using Software Update you are able to obtain the latest driver versions without having to check the vendors web site.
Dear PAHU, Sorry to trouble you but good news. The printer is working after the download of the updated driver. I belatedly realized I had not followed your instructions to the letter, insofar as I had installed the update before deleting the BJP Printers folder and doing a printer reset. As a result I had to do an archive and install of 10.5.6 from the Leopard DVD and then run all the software updates which is why I am late in coming back to you. This time I deleted the BJP printer folder before installing the download and that was enough.
